The advantages
of Ferrogres include:
- Rustic
Natural Stoneware, manufactured with natural clays withoughout
the addition of colour, affording the natural warm colour of fired
clay.
Perfectly suitable for warm rustic interiors or exteriors.
- High
Temperature Firing, at 1320oC and a long firing cycle
(36-48 hours), conditions only achievable in tunnel kilns,
giving total vitrification inside and outside of the piece.
- Low
water absorption,
due to the high level of vitrification, the matrial obtains very low
absorption and extremely high characterisitics.
- High
mechanical strength, due to low porosity and complete compactness,
with a high level of victrification. We achieve a breaking strength
of 250 kg/cm2, which in means of comparison is the same
as concrete. It is perfectly suitable for heavy transit evironments
as industrial buildings.
- High
scratch resistance, both in the natural and glazed ceramic. Due
to the treatment with high temperature we achieve with Ferrogres number
8 on the Mhos scale. In means of comparison we want to bring your
attention to the fact that the hardest material, diamond, acheives
a factor of 10 on that scale.
- Abrasion
resistance, with a weight loss of 300mg, making it more resistant
than red stoneware, and ten times harder than marble or tarrazzo.
It is perfectly suitable for high transit environment such as shopping
centres, public squares etc.
- Resistance
to acids and cleaning products, detergents, acids and alkalis,
Ferrogres is completely unalterable to all chemical agents (except
hydrofluoric acid class AA).
- Unalterable
to stains,
due to its low porosity, preventing penetration of the spilled fluids
and facilitating the cleaning
(Class 1). The stain will not remain on the material.
- Frost
resistant property.
A porous ceramic material on the outside absorbs rain and atmospheric
water. If the temperature falls below 0 oc water freezes with the
subsequent increase in volume, causing flaking and breakage of the
piece. This does not occur with vitrified materials such as Ferrogres,
as it is guaranteed frost resistant.
- Absence
of scumming from the Key Mortar. As this is a non-porous material,
it does not allow soluble salts from the binding mortar to rise to
the surface by capillarity.
- Improved
binding to the cement. The design on the dovetail back of the
pieces provides perfect binding to the key mortar, while leaving the
piece non-porous so that no water is absorbed from the mortar, giving
perfect setting.
- Improved
hygiene conditions. As this is a non-porous material, organic
reamins and moisture, able to facilitate the appearance of bacterial
cultures, cannot penetrate. It is perfectly suitable for food industries
environments as manufacturers of food products, restaurants, kitchens,
etc.
- Unalterable.
With the passing of time, as this is resistant to all types of atmospheric
and environmental conditions, there is no change on colour or appearance,
so that it is suitable for indoor and outdoor uses.
- Highly
versatile, ideal for all types of applications, with a wide range
of special pieces (steps, skirtings, baseboards, recess and protruding
corners, swimming pool edges, garden borders, tops, decorative blocks,
handrails, murals, window frames, door frames etc.)
- Not
slippery, due to this natural texture it is an anti-slip material
perfectly suitable for surroundings of swimming pools and wet environments.
Slip factor in dry condition 0.91 and in wet condition 0.88.
